This week’s guest commentary comes from Mark Wales, President, Ontario Federation of Agriculture
Coffee shops and side roads are great places to connect with your neighbours to see how the harvest is going, and talk about plans for next season. And when you want to check in with farmers across the province and the entire agriculture industry, there is one obvious place to be – Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show on September 9, 10 and 11.
This is the 21st year for the show, and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) is proud to have been a partner with this key showcase for Canadian agriculture since the very first event. At that time, OFA clearly saw the value of being part of an event where farmers meetTM. And as the industry gets ready to take in this year’s show, the OFA encourages all our members to make the trip to Woodstock to see the best that agriculture has to offer.
OFA’s Federation House – our permanent structure on the show grounds – will be brimming with information, opportunities, free draws, and coffee and fresh apple cider. Our member service representatives and directors will be on hand to talk about whatever is on your mind. Take part in our electronic poll to rank political issues that impact your farm business – from simplifying regulations to strengthening rural infrastructure.
Many of our Benefit Partners will be on site with information about the exclusive offers and program available to OFA members.
And back for a second year, is the OFA Young Farmer Tailgate Social on Tuesday, September 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. We’re hosting this event to connect with young and beginning farmers to learn about the issues they face as they start out on their career in agriculture. The OFA asks attendees to pre-register for the tailgate social by email at email@example.com
The OFA will also have a selection of fact sheets on key advocacy issues, and complimentary copies of several Best Management Practices resources. OFA has plenty to offer Ontario farmers at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show this year and look forward to meeting with our members – see you at the farm show.
