From a Release

Grain Farmers of Ontario demonstrated at two MPP offices between 10 a.m. and noon today (last Friday) to call attention to the lack of support for Ontario agriculture. Approximately 80 farmers turned out at Deb Matthews’ office in London and about 50 handed out wanted posters at Jeff Leal’s office in Peterborough. The demonstration was designed to urge MPPs to stand up for farmers in their ridings.

Mark Brock, chair of Grain Farmers of Ontario, Joe Thomson, District 4 (Middlesex) director, Scott Persall, District 5 (Elgin, Norfolk) director, and Lisa Harder, manager of Government Relations, were able to arrange a meeting with Matthews to discuss their concerns. Specifically, they brought up the government’s handling of the pollinator health file and their decision to force through regulations that will have a significant economic impact on farming, without any credible proof that these regulations will actually help Ontario’s honey bee population. The meeting ended with an invitation for Matthews to visit Thomson’s farm this summer.
