Strong community support for the 2nd Sod Buster event at Ridgetown Campus was evident on Sunday July 10th, as over 300 participants made their way through the 5K walk/run route, completed the kid’s barnyard dash or simply came out to support family and friends at this campus fundraising event.
All proceeds from the 5K Sod Buster event will go to support a proposed new Crop Research and Innovation Centre at Ridgetown Campus, needed to ensure long-term crop research programming. So far, the broader campus community has committed close to $3 million in private support for the capital project.
Our agriculture and Chatham-Kent community contributed an outstanding $20,000 in cash support plus an additional $10,000 in in-kind gifts for the Sod Buster through 35 corporate event sponsorships. An additional 35 event volunteers helped with all aspects of the walk/run.
“We couldn’t have done it without the support of so many individuals and community organizations,” says Liz Meidlinger, Manager, Communications.
“Very special thanks goes to our Westag alumni, community friends, agribusiness, campus staff and service providers, and our Ridgetown Agri-Food Foundation for being part of the event,” stated Eric Prelaz, Sod Buster Event Co-ordinator.
