New OSCIA Program For Livestock Farmers

on August 5 | in Ag News | by | with No Comments

The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association has recently launched a new program in support of grasslands and grassland birds at risk — the Grassland Stewardship Program (GSP). Timelines are fairly tight for the GSP, with the second intake for this year closing on August 15th

GSP financially supports the following best management practices:

  • Pasture rejuvenation
  • Control of encroaching trees and shrubs through mowing
  • Incorporating delayed grazing into rotational grazing systems
  • Native grassland restoration
  • Forage harvest management (delayed haying) — Note: This BMP is no longer available for 2016, it is anticipated for 2017.
