From a news release
Pork producers will have lots of reasons to attend the 55th Annual South Western Ontario Pork Conference at the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus on Wednesday February 22, 2017.
The conference is highlighting the construction of the new campus swine teaching barn. The plans to tour the building have been delayed and Dr. Paul Luimes will be displaying a video on the progress of the building and will be available to answer any questions.
The SWOPC continues its tradition of learning excellence with a theme “Start to Finish” by providing a speaker line up that touches all areas of swine production.
The afternoon speaker sessions will begin with a young Appin producer telling his story in regard to his 300 sow farrow to finish operation and recent expansion to 600 sows.
Dr. Laura Eastwood, Provincial Swine Specialist with OMAFRA will be speaking on the “Impact of Creep Feed Pellet Size on Piglet Performance Pre- and Post-Weaning”.
Dr. Bill Moore from South West Ontario Veterinary Services will bring a brief update on what’s happening in the swine industry locally.
We are very excited to have Dr. Billy Flowers, a distinguished Professor of Animal Science and Physiology at North Carolina State University, joining us this year. Dr. Flowers will be presenting two very interesting topics: Troubleshooting Reproductive Problems and Management Factors Associated with Sow Longevity.
“It’s all about keeping the producers informed and up-to-date” says Marijn Fleuren, chair of the 2017 SWOPC Planning Committee.
The conference is supported by swine businesses and area pork producer associations. The trade show area show cases over 30 industry partners who will provide expert advice on the latest products available to the pork producers.
The trade show will be open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Conference attendees should plan to arrive early, learn about the new swine barn and spend time visiting industry partners and enjoying complimentary coffee & refreshments.
2017 Conference Committee Chair, Marijn Fleuren of Rodney comments, “We are excited to offer pork producers in Southwestern Ontario an event which showcases the pork industry at the trade show and also educates by the excellent presentations we have arranged.
