From a news release

Grain Farmers of Ontario has announced the newly created role of Agronomist. Laura Ferrier, a Certified Crop Advisor, has taken on this new position.

GFO built the Agronomist role to increase its emphasis on production issues, working with researchers, government and agri-business to ensure Grain Farmers of Ontario farmer-members are provided with the most up-to-date information.

“It is vital to our farmer-members that we help develop tools to increase grain production efficiency while improving our environment. Creating an Agronomist position allows Grain Farmers of Ontario to work to bridge gaps between research advances and production technology, and advocate for practical solutions that farmers can implement in their farming operations. We are thrilled to have Laura take on this new role,” said Barry Senft, CEO, Grain Farmers of Ontario.

As Agronomist, Ferrier will lead efforts to expand production opportunities for grain farmers in Ontario. Ferrier will look at current and emerging issues in production agriculture, including precision agriculture, soil health, nutrient management and soil fertility, climate change, and resistance management.

Prior to taking on the Agronomist role, Ferrier was a member of the Communications team at GFO.

Ferrier will report to Crosby Devitt, Vice President, Strategic Development, who was brought on to lead research, market development, communications, and wheat marketing in April 2017.
